Sir,

With reference to the Proclamation just issued, we, as members of the late Deputation, who had the honor to present a Memorial on the subject of the Registration Ordinance, on behalf of the Inhabitants of this Colony, deeply regret that His Excellency and Honorable Members of the Council should so have misunderstood the intentions and feelings of the Committee and Memorialists, as to deem it necessary to resort to such a stringent measure.

We can only again express our regret that the memorial should have been worded in language that has tended to convey...
